RAPESEED ATRIUM SCULPTURE
REDWOODS NHS SSSFT | 2012
5000mm diameter
This large scale suspended sculpture was pitched as an idea when invited to submit interest in the project by the Arts for Health Coordinator at Shelton Hospital, Shrewsbury. Once presented to key members of the community, my design won over 100 other artist applicants and was commissioned with Trust money raised specifically for artwork within the new development.
The glass sculpture was based on a watercolour painting I made depicting the nearby countryside and famous ‘Blue’ Shropshire Hills, particularly The Wrekin. At the time of visiting for visual research the fields were in bloom with Rapeseed, hence the acid yellow glass areas in the composition.
